Internationalization.

Torsbergsskolan - the upper secondary school of Bollnäs - is engaged in internationalization in many ways:

Comenius project

"Rivers, Cultures, and Cooperation"

Torsbergsskolan takes part in a Comenius project together with schools in Germany (Wriezen), Greece (Lárisa), Italy (Firenze), and Spain (Lleida). The project started in February 1997 and will be finished in February 2000. Coordinator of the project is Ulla Dahlström, teacher at Torsbergsskolan.

The project shall be aimed at

¤ developing the European dimension and awareness of interdependence between all nations, particularly through studies of the participating towns and regions - their history, culture, traditions, political and social life,
¤ stimulating exchanges of students between the schools, by that generating a friendly understanding between and respect for all people - their culture, values, and ways of living,
¤ encouring mobility of teachers between the participating schools,
¤ promoting cooperation between the participating schools that can enrich educational work by stimulating new ideas of how to teach and how to learn,
¤ stimulating the use of new communication technology that can connect students and teachers in a constructive network.

Research plan for the project

The plan starts from the fact that all partner schools stand on rivers. Various fields of constructive research can be well integrated into our project, organized in mini- projects:

During the first year of the project mini-projects within the following subject fields have been finished or are in progress:
¤ Environmental studies,
¤ Towns and rivers in saga and folk-tales, folklore, traditions, and popular beliefs,
¤ Reflections of our rivers in art, film, literature, and music,
¤ Being young in Europe at the end of the 20th century
¤ How to teach and how to learn.
